Nine community projects across Queensland have received a share of the largest ever amount of funding from Queensland Country Bank’s Good For Good Community Grants Program for 2022.
Successful applicants range from as far south as Beaudesert right through to Weipa in the north, sharing in $132,824 to see their projects get off the ground. Each project will benefit their respective communities across a variety of areas including health, sport and recreation, education, environment, and arts and culture.
Our CEO, Aaron Newman, said he is pleased that this year’s grant recipients come from such a diverse range of beneficiaries, especially since they will offer long-term benefits to each community.
“The Good For Good Community Grants Program focuses on key areas of community engagement that promote healthy communities and positive relationships. It’s extremely pleasing to see the calibre of recipients of this year’s grants that are meeting that brief,” Mr Newman said.
“As a member-owned organisation, it’s our commitment to our members in each community to support the organisations that facilitate these interactions and help them achieve long-term financial security.”
Townsville’s Sri Siddhi Vinayak Cultural Centre (SSVCC) received a grant of $29,970 to assist with improving the centre’s facilities to provide a welcoming and safe space for locals of Indian heritage to promote, practice and celebrate Indian Culture through the arts, food and cultural traditions.
“One of the key groups we engage at SSVCC are the youth,” said Director of SSVCC, Shashidhar Moorthy.
“Providing a safe environment for them to engage in cultural art and craft activities is important. We have had a long-term objective of upgrading our existing infrastructure and the funding we have received from Queensland Country Bank will go towards building toilet facilities for use in the centre.
“Building a modern toilet facility for the community centre will provide a more accessible and safer environment for our members who won’t have to go across to the house (on the same property) to use the toilet.
“This funding from Queensland Country Bank through their Good For Good Community Grants will go a long way in achieving our goals. It’s a true reflection of Queensland Country Bank’s objective to support local community by walking the talk.”
Other projects that have received a 2022 Good for Good Community Grant include Cape York Boxing, Charters Towers Our Town Association, Bowen Rugby Union Club, Giru State School P & C Association, LiteHaus International, Beaudesert & District Junior Rugby, Maleny & District Men’s Shed and Ipswich’s Swifts Hockey Club.
