Magnetic Island students will be high jumping back into the school year with new athletics equipment thanks to a $10,000 grant through our Good for Good Commnity Grant Program.
Magnetic Island State School Principal Kacey Constantine says the funding enabled them to update equipment to improve safety conditions for students and increase the variety of athletics training as part of the curriculum.
“There are no athletics clubs on the Island so as a school we try to give the students all the possible opportunities and experiences they could get if they were living on the mainland,” Ms Constantine said.
“We purchased new high jump mats and refilled the sand in the long jump pit to improve safety as a priority, and added to the variety of activities with hurdles and different weighted shot puts.”
The school’s P&C Committee was instrumental in applying for the Queensland Country Good for Good Grant funding and Ms Constantine praised their ongoing commitment to students’ learning and wellbeing.
“We have a very active P&C and their continued support enables us to provide more opportunities for the students,”
“It’s very exciting for our staff and students to start the school year with new athletics equipment, and we can’t wait for our athletics carnival which is always well supported by parents and the community."
Our Chief Executive Officer Aaron Newman affirmed how proud our team are, to be able to continue supporting the communities in which we operate.
“Queensland Country is the only financial institution with a branch on Magnetic Island, and we are pleased we can further support the community through the Good for Good Grant Program,” said Mr Newman.
“This athletics equipment is a long term investment for the school which will give students access to experiences and opportunities they might otherwise miss out on,”
This is the third year that we have run our Good for Good Grants program and follows a long history of supporting our local communities through grants and sponsorships with over $2.1 million injected into community projects since 2005. Over 32 applications seeking funding for projects between $5,000 and $30,000 from not-for-profit groups around the state were considered, with nine successful applicants sharing in over $110,000.
Applications will open soon for our 2020 Queensland Country Good for Good Grants Program via our website. We are confident that the program will continue to grow and support more communities as we transition to Queensland Country Bank.
“As a customer owned banking organisation, we don’t have shareholders to pay dividends to so we can invest our profits into local communities while providing the best possible products and services to our Members.” said Mr Newman.
“We can see the impact the grants can have in our local communities, and it is something our Members can take pride in as well.”
